Directions:
Fold the paper in half. Cut along the fold. Now fold these two pieces in half. Cut along the fold. You should now have 4 pieces of paper. Fold each of these pieces in half. Put a leaf inside each piece of folded paper. Rub a crayon gently across the front of each piece of folded paper. The outline and veins of the leaves will show. Pick another crayon and color the background. The best Fall colors are yellows, reds, and browns. Take another crayon and print the names of the people coming to Thanksgiving dinner. On Thanksgiving Day place each name card on the plate where that person will sit for dinner. Repeat these directions if more name cards are needed. You have made something very special for your family and friends!!
Apple Turkey
Items you will need
plate
big lettuce leaf
big apple
8 toothpicks
12 cranberries
20 raisins
1 marshmallow
scissors
Directions:
Place the lettuce leaf on the plate. Place the apple on top (big side up). Take 4 toothpicks. Stick 3 cranberries on each of the 4 toothpicks. Set these aside. Take 3 more toothpicks. Stick 5 raisins on each of the 3 toothpicks. Poke the 7 toothpicks (alternate begining with a toothpick with raisins) into one end of the apple for the tail. On the last toothpick stick 3 more raisins for the turkey's neck. Take your scissors and snip out one edge of the marshmallow for the beak and mouth. Press a raisin into each side of the marshmallow for eyes. Push the marshmallow on the top of the toothpick for the neck. Poke the neck into the other end of the apple. What a lovely decoration!! And you can eat it too!!
Indian Belt
Items you will need:
1 large piece of thick paper
ruler
sharp pencil
scissors
tape
box of crayons
2 pieces of colored yarn as long as your arm
Directions:
Take the paper and lay it down lengthwise. With the ruler measure two 3 inch-wide strips running lengthwise and mark them. Cut out each strip. Tape the strips together short end to short end. Wrap the long strip around your waist. Mark the spot where the ends touch with your pencil. Now add on about two extra inches. Cut off the rest of the paper beyond this mark. Take your pencil and poke two holes in the end of each strip (poke one hole above the other going up the short open end of the paper). Color a nice Indian design around the belt. Take one piece of yarn and push it through the holes on one end of the belt. Do the same with the other piece of yarn on the other end of the belt. Now tie the belt around your waist. You look just like an Indian!!
Indian Bowl Game
Items you will need:
6 almonds (in the shell)
black felt tip pen
small salad bowl
bow of toothpicks
2 or more players
Directions:
Draw a thick line on one side of each almond shell with black felt pen. Put the six almonds into the bowl. Holding the bowl, each player takes turns flipping the almonds into the air and catching them again in the bowl. The player gets one point for each almond that lands with the marked side up. For every point, the player takes a toothpick. The players get 10 turns each. The player with the most toothpicks wins the game!!
This game was played by nearly every tribe in the country.
